Environment

Sources, processes, products: these three words sum up American Biltrite's commitment to the environment. Our goal as a company is to exercise our ecological responsibility from sourcing to manufacturing and beyond, all the way to the environmental effects of our products long after they are installed.

Sources
An important ingredient in many of our products is natural rubber, a sustainable, and renewable resource. Another is post-industrial recycled material.  We also use abundant natural fillers, such as clay, limestone and dolomite.

Processes
American Biltrite's R&D team has a mandate to develop ecologically responsible products. That includes seeking innovative ways to green each aspect of the manufacturing process. Several of our products are designed to include a percentage of in-process scrap while maintaining excellent characteristics. Trimmings and rejects are recycled into new products. Located in the heart of a thriving city, we are committed to operating our business in a way that uses resources wisely, respects the environment and protects the health of our employees and the community.

Products
From an environmental standpoint, the best flooring contains no PVC (poly vinyl chloride) and has low to zero emissions of VOCs (volatile organic compounds). All our Eco Tile and Sheet products meet this standard. In fact, American Biltrite was the first to develop a true PVC/VOC-free tile flooring. All of our flooring products are FloorScore certified, an assurance of low VOC emissions for optimal indoor air quality. For projects targeting LEED certification, we offer our Stonescape, Viera and Marathon collections. Made from a blend of naturally abundant resources, Stonescape and Viera flooring contain no PVC, halogens or plasticizers and emit no harmful VOCs. And since most institutions are looking for ways to reduce their maintenance expenses and the products they use, we developed our Oasis flooring to maintain its luster without waxing.

There are countless ways of being environmentally conscious: preventing leaks, reducing wear, extending the lifetime of machinery and construction. Through dependable performance that exceeds specifications, our performance sheet rubber also works to protect the environment.

Our environmental policy

American Biltrite manufactures and distributes commercial flooring and performance sheet rubber throughout America. Environmental protection is an integral part of its mission and its values. In the management of an ISO 14001 system, it commits to:

Respect the legal requirements in effect and other applicable requirements;

Steadily improve performance by setting environmental improvement targets;

Prevent pollution by constantly minimizing the impact of its activities on the environment;

Develop new environmentally friendly products.
